Betty White’s enduring legacy needs no introduction.
On what would have been her 100th birthday, her story will be duly honored on the big screen in “Betty White: A Celebration.”
Showing in theaters Monday, the film was previously titled “Betty White: 100 Years Young: A Birthday Celebration.” after his death on Dec. however, on January 31, his directors repurposed the footage to provide a final look at his storied career.
“Our hearts break today at the passing of Betty White,” producing duo Steve Boettcher and Mike Trinklein said in a statement after White’s death.
“Over the many years we worked with her, we developed a great love and admiration for Betty as a person and as an accomplished artist. …we will move forward with our plans to show the film…in the hope that our film will provide a way for all who loved her to celebrate her life and experience what made her a national treasure.” /p>

The film will offer a behind-the-scenes look at some of White’s most timeless moments from “The Golden Girls,” “Saturday Night Live,” “Hot in Cleveland,” and more. It will also include quotes from his final interview and give fans a chance to understand what mattered most to him.
Many of White’s famous friends, including Ryan Reynolds, Tina Fey and Morgan Freeman, are in the documentary. Reynolds, who co-starred with White in the 2009 film “The Proposal” and has since jokingly called her his “ex-girlfriend,” tweeted a moving tribute to the late icon after news of his death was announced. >

The film will be screened today in 900 theaters across the country. It’s billed as a “one-day special” event, and there’s no word yet on whether the film will eventually make its way to streaming services.
