so, continuing the series of reviews of movies and shows on ott, our pick today is mail, the latest telugu movie on aha. now let’s see how it is.

history

The story takes place in the early 2000s, when small towns were also just beginning to know what a computer is. mail is chapter one of the kambalapally kathalu series. hybath (priyadarshi) is a small-time photographer who brings a computer to his village and attracts the youth. Ravi (harshith reddy) is the one who is very curious about the computer. he creates a mail id and one fine day, he receives a fake email that he has won a sum of 2 million rupees as a lottery. how does ravi’s life change after this email is the whole story of the movie? points in favor

The story of the film is quite nice and it is very well set in the small town of telangana. the earthy characters, the innocence of youth, and how things are perceived by small-town people are shown very well. Harishith Reddy, who plays the lead, has done well in the movie. he acts so naturally in the role of a confused young man and it is good to see the way the young actor shows enthusiasm, fear and interest in learning computers.

last but not least, priyadarshi is amazing in his small but important role. his subtle comedy and his funny expressions are solid in the film. priyadarshi is the anchor of the sheet and his simple facial expressions convey a lot in the film. the computer generated comedy is well handled. the climax part of the film is also quite naturally justified.

The movie has some nostalgic moments that remind you of old school life in small towns. the romantic thread is also good. more than anything the honesty in the characters is the best thing about the movie. a panchayat virus debate is super fun.

negative points

one of the biggest drawbacks of the film is the slowness. although the story and characters are well established, the narration is very slow and can go against part of the audience. the role of priyadarshi should have been shot a bit more effectively in the film.

Also, the characters and how they fit into the story should have been a bit more effective. the film is not conventional and has a kind of documentary. something should have been done to make this look more conventional so that the effect would have been better.

technical aspects

mail is very strong in the technical department. the production values of the film are top notch and the amazing camera work shows off the atmosphere of the town in a cute way. the dialogue is earthy, the production design is top notch, and all the writing has honesty. editing could have been better. the wardrobe and makeup seem apt.

referring to director uday gurrala, he has done a decent job with the film. his writing is sincere and that is magnificently displayed through the performance of the stellar cast. but he has delayed the narration a bit with his slowness and if the film had lasted an hour and a half, the impact would have been even superb.

verdict

Overall, mail is a nice drama, which has some heartfelt performances and an interesting plot. the small-town innocence of youth, the situational comedy, and the appropriate climax are all good assets. Except for the very slow pace and some long scenes, mail is a movie that can be given a chance for its honest storytelling.

score: 3/5
