Our dvd and blu-ray sales estimates are based on weekly retail surveys, which we use to generate a weekly market share estimate for each title we’re tracking. Market share is converted to a weekly sales estimate based on industry reports on the overall size of the market, including reports published in media play news.
For example, if our weekly retail survey estimates that a particular title sold 1% of all units that week, and the industry reports total sales of 1,500,000 units, we would estimate that 15,000 units of that title were sold. consumer spending estimate is based on the title’s average selling price at the retailers we surveyed.
We refine our estimates week by week as more data becomes available. In particular, we adjust the weekly sales figures for the quarter once the digital entertainment group publishes estimates of the total market. therefore, figures will fluctuate each week and individual title totals may rise or fall as we update our estimates.
Because the sales figures are estimated based on samples, they will be more accurate for the best-selling titles.
