when is the release date of shang-chi 2? shang-chi and the legend of the ten rings have come and gone, and to say that it was a huge success would be an understatement. The 25th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been a critical and commercial success, earning 92% on Rotten Tomatoes (at the time of this writing) and grossing millions at the box office.

Starring Simu Liu as the titular Shang-Chi, the adventure film is a globe-trotting martial arts masterpiece, combining the wonder of fantasy films with the white-knuckle thrills of the best action movies. Of course, all of this success and the end of Shang-Chi have people wondering when they’ll see Marvel’s martial arts master again.

well, since this is the mcu, it’s not the last we’ve seen of shang-chi, or her best friend turned archer katy (awkwafina). so to bring you the latest news on shang-chi’s sequel, we researched the banned tomes in kamar-taj’s library (risking wong’s wrath), searched the web, and even talked to the cast of the movie to bring you everything what we know about the shang-chi 2 release date.

shang-chi 2 has been confirmed in December 2021, though it doesn’t have a release date yet. marvel studio has already plotted their phase 4 movies, so we know we won’t be getting shang-chi chi 2 for a few years yet.

the studio has been gradually announcing more movies that we assume are part of phase 5, including anthony mackie’s captain america movie and deadpool 3.

simu liu gave some details about the production of the film during the premiere of no way home. “It’s so good to feel the motor turn again,” he told comicbook.com. “We can tell more stories again,” while digging deeper into the characters and providing more of those gritty fight sequences.”

after shang-chi’s dramatic ending and intriguing post-credits scenes, marvel studios could take the sequel in quite a few different directions.

if we were forced to, we figured the story would probably be about shang-chi’s sister, xialing (meng’er zhang). xialing was supposed to be shutting down her father’s evil terrorist organization, but it seems she has appropriated the ten rings for her own nefarious ends, something we doubt her brother would be happy with.

Because it’s such a wonderful movie, we can probably assume that shang-chi will be called together the next time earth is threatened by an intergalactic purple guy with a death wish and a fancy glove. who knows, maybe katy will join shang-chi in the avengers too. awkafina told us that she thought she would be “cool” if that happened, though she couldn’t confirm anything.

the ten rings: best suspense movies

One person already thinking about Shang-Chi’s next outing is Marvel Studio boss Kevin Feige. “Early reactions to the characters and [shang-chi] itself give me great hope that people will want to see more of these characters,” he told comicbook.com.

“we certainly have lots of ideas about where to take them and where to put them. What’s so funny, we know the movie is working when it’s not just the main character that people ask about, but the co-stars or supporting actors that people ask about.”

While nothing has been confirmed, it seems likely that both simu liu and awkwafina will be in shang-chi 2, especially given the prominence of their friendship at the end of the action flick. we know that the ten rings will return, which means that their new boss, xialing, will probably return as well.

avengers assembled: marvel movies in order

If xialing is back, that means his muscle-bound, razor-fisted lieutenant (florian munteanu) probably has a good chance of returning as well. It would also be nice to see a little more of michelle yeoh in the next movie, but a return to ta lo seems unlikely at this point.

of the main cast, the only member who probably won’t return is wenwu (tony leung), partly because he died and partly because his arc ended at the end of the movie. yes, we know flashbacks exist, but we can’t see the benefit of bringing him back at this point.

An actor Cretton would love to star in the film is martial arts legend Jackie Chan. In a recent interview with Cinemablend, he said, “I mean, if we could ever get Jackie [chan] into a movie, that would be a lifelong dream of mine.”

the question is, with cretton now working on avengers 5, will he have time to work on shang-chi 2? we hope so, but we know that the mcu machine does not stop for anyone.
