in the name of god is a web series that has caused quite a stir with its trailer. the show is finally live on aha and now let’s see what it’s like.

history

The story is set in Rajahmundry and is about Aadi (Priyadarshini) whose dream is to buy a resort. he is also attracted to meena (nandini rai) who is the young wife of ayappa (posani). one fine day, meena lures aadi to do her a favor and, unaware of the circumstances, aadi says that he’s fine. The twist comes when Ayappa is killed and Aadi becomes involved in the murder. this is also the time when a feared gang is looking for a bag of money that has ayappa. who killed ayappa? Will Aadi get out of his predicament? And what is all this bag of money about? to know this, you have to watch the show.

bonus points

The story of the series is quite interesting and it is very well set in an intriguing premise. the crime angle and the tagline behind the whole drama are clearly stated by the director in the first two episodes. the way priyadarshi’s character gets involved is shown well during this time.

priyadarshi has become a go-to actor when it comes to playing underdog roles. he is superb as aadi and is the main attraction of the show. if it weren’t for priyadarshi, the show would have been pretty boring. The young actor displays lust, jealousy and fear superbly and plays him impressively.

Nandini Rai is also impressive in her role, which has a good range. the mischievous side of her and the evil thoughts behind the character, nandini has shown well. mohammad ali baig, the stage actor from hyderabad is very good in the negative role of her. he gives the show an edge. The actor who played the role of Thomas was also quite impressed with his restless attitude.

negative points

One of the biggest drawbacks of the program is the swearing. for every two lines, the program is full of swear words. the actors say so many bad words that even men can feel uncomfortable after a while. this is a big drawback apart from the bgm. such crime stories are greatly enhanced by the musical score, but in reality, that’s missing entirely.

Once the fourth episode begins, things fall like a deck of cards. the script is messed up and so many weird characters are introduced for no reason. The grip on the show is missing as the thrill of what happened to the money bag is lost.

each character is displayed in too much detail that it wasn’t necessary. the narration slows down and the last episode is rushed for no reason. Also, after facing so much like a coward, Priyadarshi comes back so strong that it seems a bit strange.

technical aspects

The show’s production values are impressive. credit must surely go to the camera work as it shows off the locations excellently. the color texture used is well suited to the mood of the show. Also, like I said, the dialogues look weird. the editing is boring as the show is filled with so many repeated scenes. the production design is pretty good.

As for director vidya sagar, he has a well-written script on paper, but the way he narrated the show was half-baked. there is a curiosity factor to the show that takes place only for a while and once the show heads into the middle parts, the show fizzles out with dull moments.

verdict

Overall, In God’s Name is a middling thriller that starts off pretty well and ends on a disappointing note. The show has a good premise, strong performances from Nandini Rai and Priyadarshi, but it drags on in the later episodes. On top of this, swearing doesn’t help much. If you like crime thrillers, give it a try, but there’s nothing worthwhile about this show.
