Video Jilla movie review

jilla, the 2014 Tamil hit is dubbed into Telugu under the same title. Starring Vijay and Kajal Aggarwal in the lead roles, this movie has hit the screens today. let’s see how it is.

history:-

sivayya (mohan lal) is a ruthless local thug in vijayawada. he adopts shakti (vijay), son of his right-hand man who is killed during a local fight. Sivayya decides to make Shakti a police officer to continue his criminal activities.

Shakti reluctantly accepts the role of a police officer. During his tenure, Shakti regrets his misdeeds and decides to follow the path of honesty. he too asks sivayya to change, but all to no avail as differences arise between the two.

How will the story unfold from here? will both sivayya and shakti come together again? that forms the rest of the story.

positive points:-

The main attraction of the film is the relationship between the father and his adopted son. the director portrayed the emotions quite well and, in particular, the scenes before the interval are executed very well. plus, a couple of twists in the second half lift the movie up to a point.

mohan lal does an excellent job and took over the movie with an excellent performance. his gaze and presence on screen gives the performances an added edge. Vijay also did justice to his character and his excellent performance in massive scenes will be a treat for the audience.

The last half hour before the interval is the highlight of the movie. Unexpected twists before the climax and Vijay’s role as a police officer will thoroughly entertain the audience.

negative points:-

Although this film was a great success in Tamil, it lacks certain elements to appeal to the Telugu audience. after the initial half hour, the story tempo slows down entirely to the block before the interval. the scenes between vijay and mohan lal in the second half needed much better execution.

also the scenes between vijay and kajal are not convincing and kajal’s character needed a lot of establishment. the comedy track between brahmanandam and other telugu actors was not executed perfectly and is a total handicap for the movie. the abrupt ending is also a big drawback for the movie.

technical aspects:-

director nt neason did a good job with his execution. the music given by d.iman impresses the audience only to a certain extent, but the background score by him is quite good.

ganesh rajavelu’s cinematography is good as he captured the mood of the scenes beautifully. the telugu dialogues written by shashank vennelakanti are decent. editing is fine too.

verdict:-

the crazy combination of vijay and mohan lal worked wonders in tamil. but the same magic could not be repeated in the Telugu version. the performance shown by both superstars is very impressive. but the routine comedy, lame romance track, and subpar songs are a major drawback for the film. all in all jilla is just another regular commercial artist that will only impress the mass audience.
