nancy diane young was elected to the tracy city council in november 2012 and re-elected in 2016. her desire to serve on the city council continues to be a fresh, proven and effective voice for the community from tracy, echoing your voice because, “your voice matters!” Her commitment is to preserve our family-oriented community, focus more on bringing new businesses and jobs to Tracy, while nurturing existing businesses; strengthen our public safety; and address the needs of youth and older adults. As an advocate for Measure V, she continues to work diligently to ensure that every penny is spent to honor the voice of our citizens by providing much-needed services to Tracy.

nancy is a passionate woman who is concerned that people see the development of a true community; the crossing of racial, generational, political and economic borders, accentuating common goals between people; and help others achieve growth and liberation in their lives through mentoring and ministry. She is the author of seven published books, earned a BS in Mass Communications from UC Berkeley, an MBA from the University of Phoenix, a JD from Good News Seminary and Bible College, a Minister’s License of Pentecostal Assemblies from El world and ordination as a pastor of international faith shield.

dr. young has been active in her community since her youth. Starting in the early 1980s, she began mentoring and tutoring, as well as volunteering at nursing homes. She founded the image of Ella Fremont Youth Group and Women of Integrity. Later, she mentored through the Young Scholars program in Oakland, helping teens through the process and experience before and after college. Throughout her children’s upbringing, she has been a homeschool teacher, school volunteer, math tutor, classroom parent, and ardent supporter of her children’s athletic and business endeavors. Since 2006, she has been engaged and involved in our community, providing transparency, integrity, and personal investment, actively working to make Tracy even better. Her dedication is evident through her involvement with Tracy Kiwanis (Past President, Board Member and Key Club Advisor), Tracy Boys and Girls Club (Board Member), Tracy African American Association (Treasurer), Tracy Golden agers (senior attorney), founder of living with a purpose mentoring, leading as a mentor for the student discovery program (a mentoring program at kimball high for the past eight years), and sowing a seed base (advisory board).

Her investment in our next generation begins as the proud mother of four children [Benjamin (married to Shante), Michael, Lydia, and Nathaniel, four stepchildren (Charmayne, James, Jr., Shaun, and Shannon), and seven grandchildren (Benjamin , Leonard III, Omar, Shannon, Jr., Rachael, Shantez, and Sharmayne).

mayor, dr. nancy young believes that if we, the tracy community, come together and collectively make our voices heard, we can make tracy an even better place to live and do business. As a community we are poised to bring many new businesses to Tracy and she will continue to fly the flag that Tracy has much to offer and come together to have a full complement of positive things to offer that will appeal to businesses and families alike, including a community safety, a variety of housing options, recreational activities for our youth, and other opportunities for our future.
