narappa is one of the biggest Telugu movies in the world. Starring Venkatesh and Priyamani in the lead roles, this movie is available now on Amazon Prime. let’s see how it is.
narappa(venkatesh) leads a peaceful life with his wife(priyamani), daughter and two sons in a small village of ananthapur. The village chief, Pandusamy, plans to capture Narappa’s land and this does not go well with his eldest son, Munikanna (Karthik Rathnam), who confronts Panduswamy. Calamity strikes and Narappa faces a great loss. Unexpectedly, even as Narappa remains calm, his youngest child, Sinnappa, takes a violent route to get revenge, leading to dangerous consequences. Was narappa able to protect his family and land from him? that he forms the rest of the story?
The film has a solid backdrop and has been well set in the Telugu nativity. the locations, production values, and executed shots give this film a rustic feel. srikanth addala drinks well and doesn’t experience much. keeps the emotions of the original intact and shows venkatesh in a strong way.
Coming to venkatesh, it’s arguably one of the best performances of his career to date. Venkatesh surprises you with his aggressiveness and emotional outburst. In general, we are used to seeing Venky in funny roles, but he pulls double duty and is also good as the aggressive young man. watch out for the performance of venky and priyamani during the scene of the death of his son.
priyamani, the nationally awarded actress, plays her supporting role to perfection. She is the right choice for the role and Priyamani brings a lot of depth to the entire setup. the dialogues and the anantapur accent are also used well in the film.
more than anything, strong emotions make narappa click in the first half. Rajeev Kanakala lands an amazing role after a long time and ably supports Venkatesh throughout the movie.
with each passing day karthik rathnam gets magnificent roles and his role as munikanna is amazing and the young actor does exceptionally well in the first half. the child actor who played sinnappa was great too.
After the emotional and gritty first half, the pace of the movie drops a lot. the movie goes into a flashback mode and this disturbs the process a bit. the problems suffered by lower class people are mainly shown in this flashback and it doesn’t create much impact.
He takes a long time for this flashback and venkatesh’s little love clue involving ammu abhirami doesn’t help the process either. the ending is also a bit slow and is wrapped in a simple note.
narappa is quite predictable and all those who have seen asuran will be disappointed during the second half, as the intensity is lost a bit, although the movie ends well.
The film’s production values are top notch. the intensity and raw look are superbly created by the camera work. the dialogues are good and so was the costume design.
The script was decent and nicely elevates the emotions and tragedy in the first half. Mani Sharma’s music is decent, but his background music was solid.
Coming to director Srikanth Addala, he makes a nice comeback with Narappa. he is quite strong with family emotions and shows them in a good way in narappa as well. his command of his script is good and he didn’t let his guard down on most of it. If he had made the second half quite exciting as well, things would have been even better.
Overall, narappa is a well-made family drama that has solid action and emotion. the story is a bit predictable and things slow down in the later parts of the interval. Those who have seen the original will surely draw comparisons, but venkatesh’s captivating storytelling and standout act remove all the technical issues and make this film a joy to watch this weekend.
