Continuing the trend of reviewing shows and movies on ott, today’s movie is Needa, the Malayalam dubbed movie starring Nayanthara. the movie is in aha and let’s see how it goes.
sharmila(nayanthara) lives alone with her eight-year-old son nithin, who has the ability to tell crime stories to his classmates. One of Nithin’s classmates reveals this quality to her father, John Baby (Kunchacko Boban). John finds Nithin’s stories interesting and is surprised when he learns that some of the stories have happened in real life. how does nithin manage to tell these stories? what is sarmila’s connection to all this? And what is all the mystery about? which forms the story.
kunchacko boban does his role as an investigator well. the way his role has been shot is also good in the movie. but the highlight is the boy who played nithin. the story runs over it and it does a pretty good job of holding up the screen for the most part.
coming to nayanthara, he has done a good job, but his role is not so good. she should have been given more elevation and screen time. twists shown at the end are also acceptable. the camera work and production design are quite good.
Although the twists are good, the way they unravel is not so good. the movie starts off on a slow note and doesn’t have the great pacing or emotion that thrillers have. the creators take their time to introduce the twists and enter the main story a bit late.
the way kunchacko boban gets involved in the case and the way he handles things also seems a bit strange. the way the script is treated in the last part is not so good either. thrillers need to have more drama but they need to lose this aspect in many areas.
Malayalam movies are always sound in their technical aspects and the same goes for this movie. the visuals, production design, and locations are pretty good. bgm is decent but the telugu dub could have been better. As for the director appu, he has done an acceptable job with the film. If he had managed to get the script right, would things have even been gritty for the audience?
Overall, Needa is a movie that has a very interesting premise and is well narrated for the most part. but the steam goes down in the last half hour disappointing the audience. anyone who likes thrillers can give this movie a shot for its slick production values and stellar cast.
