Captain America 4 release date and more about New World Order

captain america 4 is gearing up to start filming next year and will feature a surprising mcu return.

After the official title and release date were revealed at comic-con, more cast members were announced at the d23 expo. They included Tim Blake Nelson as the lead, marking the first time we’ve seen him since The Incredible Hulk.

The official title of Anthony Mackie’s first solo MCU film is Captain America: New World Order, and its May 2024 release date confirms it as part of Phase 5 of the MCU.

It was announced that the fourth film would be in development in April 2021, shortly after the end of Falcon and the Winter Soldier. That series saw Sam Wilson (Mackie) take up the mantle of Captain America.

The falcon and the winter soldier duo, malcolm spellman and dalan musson, are writing the film, which will be directed by julius onah. But what else do we know so far about Captain America 4?

Marvel has confirmed that Captain America: New World Order will be released in theaters on May 3, 2024, making it the penultimate installment in Phase 5.

In September 2022, Onah told comicbook.com that filming for the new movie was scheduled to begin in spring 2023. Assuming it goes ahead as planned, the movie should make it to a May 2024 release. .

As always, the release date could change, but we won’t know until the movie starts shooting if there will be any delays. though hopefully not.

Unsurprisingly, Anthony Mackie will return as Sam Wilson, aka Captain America, in the new movie, but we had to wait until August 2021 for official confirmation.

It was confirmed at expo d23 that he will be joined by two familiar faces from falcon and the winter soldier: danny ramirez as joaquín torres (potentially the new falcon?) and carl lumbly as isaiah bradley.

as mentioned above, the film will also see the return of tim blake nelson as dr samuel sterns. The Incredible Hulk ending saw him transform into the leader, and it looks like he’ll be a formidable foe to Cap.

“the leader is a man who operates off of intellect, so it’s great to have an adversary who is working off of this incredible intellect to really, you know, put sam through the wringer of this story,” said onah to comicbook.com.

We’ll also see Shira Haas play Israeli superhero Sabra, but it’s not yet clear if Sebastian Stan will be involved as Bucky Barnes, aka The Winter Soldier.

Bucky will appear in Thunderbolts, which will be released after Captain America: New World Order. that doesn’t rule out an appearance in the new cap movie, but we wouldn’t expect it to be important if he was in it.

mackie seemed to be hinting to variety that stan won’t be in the movie. “I’m so upset they put Sebastian in a movie with Wyatt [Russell] and left me out. If Sebastian gets Wyatt, he should cast Chris [Evans],” he joked.

the big question is if chris evans would somehow return as steve rogers, aka the former captain america. seems unlikely as he is probably dead in the mcu but there were rumors of one more movie in January 2021.

with the multiverse now established in the mcu, that brings up the possibility of crossing the boundary of a different universe. However, Evans doesn’t seem so sure that he would ever return to the role.

“It was such a good run and I’m so happy with it. It’s so precious to me. It would have to be perfect,” he said in June 2022. “It would be scary to shake something that is, again, so, so dear to me. me. that role means a lot to me. so playing it again would be a difficult task.”

It also seems likely that we’ll get more of emily vancamp’s sharon carter, now revealed as the power broker, while julia louis-dreyfus could return as valentina allegra de fontaine, who will also be in thunderbolts.

Although we have an official title and release date, no information about the plot of Captain America: New World Order has been released.

Given the crossover cast, it looks like it will definitely bounce back from the events of the falcon and the winter soldier which left some plot threads hanging.

There’s the sharon carter villainous twist, there’s zemo still alive in prison, and of course the falcon-now-cap’s internal reckoning with what it means, as a black man, to wear the stars and stripes suit.

Who will be the ultimate villain, which city will be destroyed, and if anything crazy from the multiverse comes into play are all questions we can’t answer yet. but we’re sure more details will come in due course.

In November 2021, Marvel producer Nate Moore teased a “fascinating” arc for Cap in the new movie. “I think it’s not Steve Rogers and I think that’s a good thing, because for me, this new cap is complicated,” she explained.

“he’s going to be the underdog in any situation. he’s not a supersoldier. he’s not a hundred years old. he doesn’t have the avengers. what about [next] this guy announcing publicly, without the support, ‘i’m the new captain america’.

“he’s a guy with wings and a shield, but he’s a guy. so, we’re going to put him through a wringer and have him earn it, and see what happens when he’s outweight, outweight, outweight-everything.”

onah also teased comicbook.com that the new movie will be about sam wilson figuring out how to be a leader.

“in this story, a big part of his journey is, how do you define that leadership? that’s something he hasn’t had to deal with yet. like the falcon, he was always there supporting the rest of the team, but now he’s the man leading the team,” he added.

It may have been confirmed, but filming for Captain America: New World Order hasn’t started yet, so you’ll be waiting for a trailer.

we wouldn’t expect to see anything until the end of 2023. sorry.
