Legendary filmmaker Mani Ratnam is back with another romantic artist, Ok Bangaram. Starring Dulquer Salmaan and Nithya Menen in the lead roles, this movie has hit the screens today. let’s see how it is.
history:-
aadi(dulquer salmaan) and tara(nithya menon) are two young corporate employees living in mumbai. they lead a fancy lifestyle and are not interested in the concept of marriage. One fine day, they pass each other and instantly set off. very soon, their friendship turns into a live relationship and the couple spend happy times together.
The twist in the story comes when the couple has to leave each other and go abroad for their future projects. What are they going to do now ? Will they end up sacrificing their careers? or they will go ahead with their broad-minded thinking. that forms the rest of the story.
positive points:-
One of the basic assets of the film is the daring narration. Mani Ratnam proves once again what a genius he is. the way it shows such a simple story in a rather light-hearted way is splendid. nithya menen is a powerhouse of talent and is excellent in her role. she looks beautiful and brings a lot of depth to the film. prakash raj is very good in a supporting role and brings balance to the film.
yet another plus of the movie is the sizzling chemistry between nithya and dulquer. there is some magic between the couple on screen and it makes up for some beautiful moments. the whole movie is based on his emotions and r rahman’s forceful background music just takes the movie to another level.
Coming to dulquer, he is the heart and soul of the movie. this young actor is a superstar in the making and he plays him beautifully. dulquer’s appearance and the way he displays a carefree attitude in the movie is impressive. Credit should also go to actor Nani for bringing the character of Dulquer to life by dubbing him. not once does nani make you feel like this is a dubbing movie.
negative points:-
The story of the movie is very predictable and has been dealt with many times before. after a windy first half, the second half gets a bit slow. the climax of the film could have been raised a bit higher and is wrapped up in a hurry. certain emotions of the older couple played by prakash raj and leela krishnan could have been conveyed more convincingly.
There is not much for the mass audience to take into account. all the basic commercial elements are missing from the film and only certain sections of the audience will like it.
technical aspects:-
ar rahman’s musical score is brilliant and is the backbone of the film. as said before, it’s its background soundtrack that takes the movie to another level. Credit should also go to Mani Ratnam for showcasing Rahman’s songs so beautifully. P C Sreeram’s visuals are top notch and show the movie in a romantic light. the way you have shown mumbai is so beautiful.
the dialogues are simple and go with the mood of the movie. Mani Ratnam is back in her elements with this movie and she executes this love story very well. she deals with the current mentality of young people and shows her emotions well. the way she takes a simple story and places it in the middle of the metropolitan city of mumbai is wonderful. he capitalizes on the main couple’s chemistry and extracts an excellent performance from them.
verdict:-
With Ok Banagaram, Mani Ratnam makes a decent comeback. he gives the audience what is expected of him and narrates the film in a youthful way. the amazing chemistry between the main couple and the hard-hitting music are staple assets of the film. If you can ignore the routine story, Mani Ratnam’s daring narration will make you fall in love all over again.
