robert pattinson as batman

update: robert pattinson starts training for the batman movie.

robert pattinson has officially started preparing for batman action sequences as the first photos of him training have been released.

The actor has been working with Brazilian jiu-jitsu red and black belt athlete Rigan Machado, who has worked with the likes of Vin Diesel, Ashton Kutcher and Charlie Hunnam in the past.

machado posted a series of instagram images with the caption “jiujitsu brother,” showing the actor in fighting mode on a training mat.

Pat-man is actually happening, folks. The former Twilight icon turned indie star was announced earlier this year, but he’s not completely sure how it happened at all. “It’s kind of insane,” Pattinson told Esquire this month. “I was so far away from ever thinking it was a realistic prospect. I literally do not understand how I’ve got it, at all.”

pattinson previously teased an “interesting direction” for the new film, saying it would be “something from the comics that hasn’t really been explored yet.”

In an interview with Access in October 2019, Pattinson revealed that Willem Dafoe, his co-star in The Lighthouse, could inspire his version of Batman’s recognizable voice.

“willem’s voice on this is pretty inspiring to be honest. it’s pretty similar to the voice I’m going to do,” she explained. “I think batman has kind of a pirate voice, I think that would really suit him.”

Originally, Ben Affleck was supposed to reprise the role he had played in 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and 2017’s Justice League. 47 years old had to leave the post and stop writing and directing the new project.

The Batman movie

Pat-man: Robert Pattinson will play Bruce Wayne in a new movie, helmed by ‘Cloverfield’ director Matt Reeves.

Pattinson has revealed why he decided to return to big-budget films after a recent habit of choosing independent flicks, saying: “Big movies, generally the parts aren’t as interesting — at least the stuff that was coming my way. I guess there was some fear.”

“I think I probably would have been a little nervous if I’d gone straight into [batman] right after [twilight],” he added.

Speaking about donning the iconic Batsuit for the first time, Pattinson added: “It’s maybe the craziest thing I’ve ever done in terms of movies. I put it on I remember telling Matt [Reeves, writer/director], ‘ feels quite transformative!’ He said, ‘I hope so! You’re literally in the bat suit. You feel very powerful right away. And it’s quite amazing, something that’s incredibly difficult to get into, so the ritual of doing so is quite humiliating.

“You have five people trying to get you into something. once you have it on, it’s like, ‘yeah, I feel strong, I feel hard, even though I had to have someone press my buttocks against my legs.'”

pattinson admitted he was upset by the rumors of his casting before it was officially announced, mainly because he hadn’t auditioned for the role yet and felt he might lose the role as a result.

“I hadn’t even auditioned,” he told Time Out. “It’s heartbreaking because I was so emotional and you think, really, is this how I’m going to lose this role? Losing something is the most annoying circumstance.”

Recalling being questioned about the reports at a movie premiere, the actor added: “Everyone was like, ‘Is that true? Is that true?’ And it wasn’t true at the time, I hadn’t gotten the work…it was pretty scary.”

when asked by gq why pattinson chose to do batman in the first place, the actor replied: “what are the reasons not to do it?”

added, “I like the fact that not only are there very, very, very well done versions of the character that seem pretty definitive, but I was thinking there are multiple definitive interpretations of the character.

“It’s fun when you’ve covered more and more ground. like, where’s the gap? you’ve seen this kind of lighter version, you’ve seen a kind of jaded version, a kind of more animalistic version. and the puzzle becomes quite satisfying, thinking: where is my opening?”

pattinson also added that he was drawn to the idea of a “legacy part”, explaining the attachment to that character.

“You can almost feel that kick of anticipation, so it gives you a little bit of energy. it’s different than when you’re doing a role and there’s a chance no one will see it. Right? somehow it’s, I don’t know…it makes you a little spicy.”

zoe kravitz as catwoman

Update: Speaking about landing the role of catwoman, zoe kravitz told variety, “I was excited when I got the part, and usually when you get a job, the people who are excited are you, your parents, your agent, your friends and nothing else.

“But when the press release came, I got more texts and calls than I did on my birthday, my wedding day. all of a sudden, reality started to catch on what this means not only to me, but to everyone else culturally, and the fans of this universe are very dedicated and opinionated.”

added: “Of course, I want to honor the fans and I hope they like what I do with the role, but to do what I think I should do with catwoman, I have to go inside and forget about the rest of the world.

As for working with Pattinson, Kravitz revealed before filming, “I’ve never worked with him before, but we’ve been together for the last few weeks, I had to do a screen test with him and now we’ve been training together and rehearsing together and he’s just a lovely person and such a wonderful and thoughtful actor.

“I think he’s perfect for the role and it’s going to be quite an adventure. I’m excited to have him as my partner in crime and to be there to support each other, because it’s intense. It’s going to be a long shoot and there’s a lot of pressure, and I know he has my back and I have his.”

Speaking to Variety again in June, she added: “First of all, he’s a really good actor. He started out as kind of a teen pop sensation, and then I think we all saw through his work that there was a lot more at stake. he’s a really interesting artist, and that’s a lot like batman in a way.

“We have the illusion of bruce wayne, and then we have batman in the shadows who has much more complicated things. so on that alone, I think he’s perfect for this role. he can relate that way, and he looks good in the suit, man.”

The Batman movie

For the part of Selina Kyle aka Catwoman, Reeves has turned to someone a little more experienced in the art of the comic book movie.

Following her stint playing the same character in the Lego Batman Movie (2017), Zoe Kravitz will play Kyle, an athletic thief and, according to the comics, Batman’s former love interest.

As detailed by The Hollywood Reporter last week (October 15), Kravitz landed the role after reading with Pattinson and three other candidates. Director Matt Reeves appeared to confirm the casting on social media when he tweeted a short video of Kravitz answering his phone.

— matt reeves (@mattreevesla) October 14, 2019

as part of his cover interview with another, krazitz described the role as “very physically demanding.”

“It had to be in a very specific way and there is a pandemic,” he recalled. “I put on a catsuit every day at 7 a.m., I work 12 hours a day, and then I come home and work out. It was intense.”

The actress said she made sure her version of Catwoman was seen as a “real person.”

“I tried to think of it not as a catwoman, but as a woman,” she said. “How does this make me feel? how do we approach this and how do we make sure we don’t fetishize or create a stereotype? I knew it had to be a real person.”

paul dano like the riddle

Many fans can still remember Jim Carrey’s take on the crazed supervillain (1995’s Batman Forever), but now another of Hollywood’s zaniest stars will put their spin on Edward Nigma.

Paul Dano (Little Miss Sunshine, There Will Be Blood) made headlines last week when it was revealed that he was in talks to take on a role in Reeves’ Batman. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Dano was confirmed last week, after earlier rumors suggested Jonah Hill would be cast as the project’s main villain.

Light the Bat-signal, there’s a new police chief in town. Rumoured for most of the summer, Westworld favourite Jeffrey Wright has signed up to play Commissioner James W. Gordon in Reeves new movie.

Gordon, a reluctant Batman ally and detective for the Gotham City Police Department, was previously portrayed by Oscar winner Gary Oldman in Christopher Nolan’s critically acclaimed The Dark Knight Trilogy. he is a mistrustful but loyal servant of justice who always has the public interest at heart.

john turturro as carmine falcon

director matt reeves confirmed turturro’s casting via twitter on november 22nd. The actor will play the underground crime boss who was first seen in 1987’s Batman: Year One.

tom wilkinson previously played carmine falcone in 2005’s batman begins, and john doman also took on the role in the tv show gotham.

peter sarsgaard

Peter Sarsgaard

UPDATE: Matt Reeves confirmed that Peter Sarsgaard had joined the cast on Twitter on December 6, 2019. Insiders and fans were speculating that he will take on the role of Harvey Dent, AKA the villain Two-Face.

but on January 28, 2020, in its official announcement of the start of principal photography on batman, warner bros revealed that peter sarsgaard’s character will be gotham district attorney gil colson, according to cinema blend.

>

so even though he doesn’t play dent like him, sarsgaard’s character will be working as gotham city’s chief prosecutor.

The actor already has a personal connection to the Batman franchise as his wife, Maggie Gyllenhaal, played Rachel Dawes in 2008’s The Dark Knight.

it also has a connection to dc comics adaptations. He played the villainous Hector Hammond in 2011’s Green Lantern.

colin farrell as the penguin

After months of talks, Matt Reeves appears to have confirmed that Colin Farrell will be joining the project after tweeting “wait, is that you #oz?” next to a gif of the actor in witches.

wait, is that you, #oz? 🦇 pic.twitter.com/xhj9m6oxhf

— matt reeves (@mattreevesla) January 6, 2020

“oz” refers to a shortened version of the penguin’s full name, oswald cobblepot, so all indications point to Farrell eventually jumping on board.

However, in an interview on the Happy, Sad, and Confused podcast, Farrell said that the penguin might only be in “five or six scenes” of the movie.

“I can’t wait to see the movie because my presence won’t ruin it,” Farrell said. “I’m going to feel a little uncomfortable for the fucking nine minutes I have. I can’t wait to see how [matt reeves] brought this world to life.”

rupert penry-jones as gotham city mayor don mitchell

The trailer for “The Batman” at least confirmed a new cast addition not previously attached to the project: former “Spooks” and “Whitechapel” star Rupert Penry-Jones. well, at least the picture of him in his head is in the movie. pic. twitter.com/ztcbl2n55f

— garth franklin (@darkhorizons) August 23, 2020

ghosts and tension actor rupert penry-jones confirmed his role in February 2020 after several rumors circulated online. penry-jones spoke to itv’s this morning about his experiences on set and revealed that he had a conversation with colin farell (the penguin) without realizing who he was.

“I came on set and there was a guy walking around who was overconfident. he had no idea who he was. he was being very nice, he was telling all these stories, I was like, ‘who is this guy?’” Penry-Jones said [quotes transcribed by digital spy].

“I thought he might have been a supporting actor [an extra for you and me]. He kept talking to me, very nice, very nice, and I started noticing things about his costume.

“I had a brace on my leg and these weird scars on my face, and I thought, ‘this is a lot of effort they’ve put into for a supporting artist…’ and suddenly I realized, ‘wait wait a minute this guy must be playing penguin, oh my god that’s colin farrell!’

“He was looking up, almost nose to nose with his face trying to see,” added the actor. “You couldn’t tell, it was amazing,” he said.

who else could be in the cast of batman?

A trio of big names have also been linked with roles as villains in batman.

As we’ve got this covered, real detective star Matthew McConaughey is in talks to play Two-Face/Harvey Dent.

Matthew McConaughey

He could be joined by Gollum actor Andy Serkis, who, as The Wrap report, is in talks to take on the role of Alfred Pennyworth.

It also appears that another role has been filled for the new film: According to Collider, up-and-coming Jayme Lawson will play a secret role in the film.

Johnny Depp

Johnny Depp

We Got This Covered also suggested Johnny Depp might be in line to play the Joker in Reeves’ trilogy. Warner Bros have allegedly been eyeing Depp for the role for some time, and could offer a “campy” offering for the films to come.

although shrouded in darkness, we can definitely see batman’s iconic cowl. check it out below.

check it out below:

what is the plot of batman?

Little is known about Matt Reeves’ upcoming solo adventure, but we’ve been told it will focus on Bruce Wayne’s younger and more vulnerable years. other sources claim that the film will be set during the 1990s and could feature a cooler, less gray-haired version of the caped crusader making use of his detective skills, rather than brute force.

Similar to Batman Forever, Batman will see Bats take on a variety of villains throughout their career. Speaking to the Hollywood Reporter, director Reeves revealed that his film will feature “a rogues gallery” of villains who are up to no good.

Colin Farrell, who will play the penguin in the film, has weighed in on the script, calling it “beautiful” and giving little insight into the details.

“I’m in the process of talking to matt reeves, who is the director, who wrote the script and wrote a really beautiful, dark and moving, really wonderful script,” Farrell told Jimmy Fallon. “It’s all very quiet,” he added, “but it’s a really beautiful script that he wrote and he loves it, matt. So, we’re in the process of finishing designing the character’s aesthetic.”

Reeves has also talked about his idea of giving Batman a “humanistic” slant.

Speaking to Nerdist, he explained his plan as follows: “I’m going to release the version of Batman that I would do, which will have a humanistic bent. And who knows if they’ll have any interest? If they don’t, then I won’t. and everything will be fine… I was very lucky they said yes.”

He added that he doesn’t plan on the film being an origin story (presumably that means we won’t have to see Wayne’s parents die again). “I didn’t want to do an origin story, but a story that still recognized his origins, in the sense of who he is. Like this guy, he’s struggling a lot, and that’s how he’s trying to get through that struggle,” he Reeves said.

“but that doesn’t mean I fully understand it, you know? it’s this whole idea of the shadow self and what drives you, and how much of that can you incorporate, and how much of that are you doing without realizing it.”

also added that he wants his version of this batman character not to be “fully formed” yet. he said “it felt good, what i would love to do is get a version of this batman character where he’s not fully formed yet.”

“where there is something to do in this context with who that guy would be in this world today, and ground him in all these broken ways. because at the end of the day, this guy is doing all of this to deal with the trauma of his past.”

In addition, Jeffrey Wright, who was cast by Reeves as Commissioner Gordon, has spoken with Collider about Reeves’ vision for the film and how he approaches his role. “What he does will be very specific to Matt Reeves’ vision of Gotham, and will reflect what Robert Pattinson’s Batman will be. removing a character altogether is a forced idea.

“all of us are working together to create a tone, a language, an energy and a vibe that is specific to our film.”

reeves also recently told the daily beast that his ambition was to make a “batman movie that could be different”.

“There have been some great batman movies, and I didn’t want to do just one batman movie. I wanted to make a batman movie that could be different,” the filmmaker explained.

“I told [warner bros] what I would do, and I said, look, I appreciate you wanting me to do a batman movie, but I don’t want to just do a batman movie; I want to make a Batman movie that has the opportunity to be something different and humanistic, and that can use the metaphors of the genre.”

The Batman

Jeffrey Wright. Credit: Jeff Kravitz/FilmMagic for HBO

Talking further about the new film in an interview with SiriusXM (via The Hollywood Reporter), Wright called the film the “next evolution” of Gotham.

“As with any film, we’re working together to create a mood, an idea, a setting, a tone,” Wright said. “This is the next evolution since 1939, when these stories began.”

“this is the next evolution of gotham,” added wright. “so i’m working off of the set that [director] matt [reeves] is providing and also working on what [star] robert [pattinson] is doing. we’re trying to create something together that’s ours, but is also batman.”

wright also referred to the film’s batmobile as “the baddest muscle car you can imagine.” It’s based on Gotham. it’s based on Americana.”

Co-writer mattson tomlin said in august 2020 that the film will delve into batman’s trauma. He discussed Reeves as a filmmaker during an interview with Den of Geek, saying that Reeves “always comes from a point of emotion” rather than focusing solely on the action.

“i think really looking at batman as someone who’s been through this trauma, and then everything he’s doing is a reaction to that, rather than moving away from that, i think this movie builds on that of in some very fun and surprising ways,” Tomlin said.

the recent trailer suggests that the court of owls could play a significant role in the film, as explained in a screenrant theory. The court are “a secret society of wealthy politicians” who Bruce believed were responsible for the murder of his parents as a child.

the key clue in the trailer is a letter left behind by the riddler, which in addition to containing a riddle inside, has an image on the front that is an owl, hinting that the court of owls could in fact be an antagonist of search in the movie.

“since the riddler seems to be targeting batman directly at each of the crime scenes, he could also be trying to alert batman to the existence of the court, since he knows that batman has positioned himself as a figure of justice within gotham city,” screenrant explained.

where will batman be?

It’s fair to say that Batman is likely set primarily in Gotham City, but where specifically? According to Variety, “a handful of scenes” will be filmed at Arkham Asylum, the high-security prison known to comic book fans for housing super criminals. The movie won’t be completely set in Arkham, but the hospital will be featured in some way. This comes after fans theorized that writer/director Matt Reeves may be taking partial inspiration from the popular video game Batman: Arkham Asylum by Rocksteady, which saw Batman locked up in the psychotic mental institution along with many of his greatest enemies. p>

is batman a sequel to joker?

In short, no. Speaking at a recent promotional event for horror thriller The Lighthouse, Pattinson described Reeves’ film as “kind of a different world.” That said, Warner Bros. he seems to be trying to create a scarier and grittier extended universe for his dc comics characters, with unique origin stories forming the focus of his new direction.

also, we saw joaquin phoenix’s arthur fleck meet bruce wayne for the first time in joker. Just a young schoolboy, Wayne seemed more than a little perturbed by her future nemesis. Could this fresh-faced upstart become Pattinson’s Batman? we’ll have to wait and see.

is there any connection to the dark knight trilogy?

no, although the film’s producer, dylan clark, said they told christopher nolan, director of the dark knight trilogy, that they are trying to beat his batman movies.

Speaking to Empire, Clark said, “I said this to Chris Nolan straight up: ‘Look, we’re trying to be the best Batman ever made, and we’re going to try to beat you.'”

added: “matt [reeves] is interested in taking this character to his emotional depths and shaking him to the core.”

what is the age rating for batman?

batman earned a pg-13 rating from the united states motion picture association.

As reported by Variety, Batman was rated pg-13 for “strong, violent, and disturbing content, drug content, strong language, and suggestive material.” it is believed that there is a minimum of profanity and that the violent scenes are related to car accidents and explosions.

how tall is batman?

as confirmed by the hollywood reporter, batman will be the longest batman movie in history, running at two hours and 55 minutes with eight minutes of credits.
