Current-Theega-Review Release date : Oct 31, 2014 123telugu.com Rating : 3.25/5 Director : G. Nageswara Reddy Producer : Manchu Vishnu Music Director : Achu Starring : Manoj Manchu, Rakul Preet Singh, Jagapati Babu

Rocking star Manchu Manoj, is back with yet another commercial entertainer in the form of Current Theega. Directed by Nageswara Reddy, this film has Rakul Preet as the female lead. After a round of huge promotions and publicity, this film has hit the screens today. Let’ see how it is.

history:-

sivarama raju (jagapathi babu) is a highly respected person in his village. one fine day he hits on veeraju (supreet) who badmouths his daughter that she will definitely elope when she grows up. an angry sivaraama raju challenges veeraju that if something like this happens, he will cut off both his ears in the middle of the whole village.

on the other hand, raju(manoj) is a carefree village soul who falls in love with sivarama raju’s daughter, kavita(rakul preet). the rest of the story is how raju goes against ramaraju’s will and ends up marrying kavita.

positive points:-

The first half of the movie is quite entertaining. it has the perfect mix of commercial elements like songs, dances and fights. the story is very well set here and flows freely. theega current is the manchu manoj show to the end. From the beginning, it is Manoj and his performance that takes center stage. he gives a resolute performance and doesn’t go overboard unlike his previous films. he’s good in the comedy and emotional department, and it goes without saying that he’s choreographed the action sequences quite well.

rakul preet is slowly becoming a glamorous star and she gets emotional extremely well too. she looks beautiful in Indian attire, and pulls off the schoolgirl look quite well. vennela kishore, tagubothu ramesh bring some laughs. the climax has been decently crafted and the fight that comes here lifts the movie onto a positive note. sunny leone provides the necessary visual appeal and entertains with a song.

negative points:-

The second half is a bit boring. Even though the creators tried to summon decent entertainment, the story just spins around. two songs come one after the other and mess up the flow of the movie a bit. the role of jagapathi babu lacks the necessary drive. his character doesn’t rise very high and doesn’t provide enough of a kick to the audience. you could tell that he’s getting repetitive with his looks, and it’s about time he tried something new.

The villain hint seems forced and out of place in the movie. the story is fairly simple and becomes predictable during the second half with routine elements taking center stage.

technical aspects:-

The music of the film is good and all the songs have been shot quite well. the production values are excellent and it shows the nativity of the village well. the written dialogues are entertaining and suit manoj’s body language well. sekhar’s editing is pretty good on the movie. all the montage shots and fights have been edited out quite interestingly.

As for the director, nageswara reddy, he picks up the tempo quite nicely until the first half, but fails during the second. the villain angle, story twists and other forced comedies at this point become routine.

verdict:-

Overall, the current theega starts off on a promising note with well-crafted entertainment for the first half. the tempo drops slightly in the second half, but picks up during the climax. Manoj’s electrifying performance, sunny leone and rakul preet’s glamour, and some comedic elements make this a decent movie to pass the time.
