Rang de movie review

rang de is a movie that many are waiting for as it has nithin and keerthy suresh in the lead roles. the movie comes out today and let’s see how it goes.

history:

anu(keerthy suresh) and arjun(nithin) are two childhood friends who share a love-hate relationship. anu loves arjun but he hates her. In a tragic turn of events, they get married and Arjun’s life changes. Things get even worse when Anu announces her pregnancy. what will arjun do now? How will the couple resolve their differences? that forms the rest of the story.

positive points:

For any movie to click, the drama has to be strong and the same goes for rang de. Credit must go to director Venky Atluri for writing such a strong and emotional character for Keerthy Suresh that gives the film enough substance and scope for good drama.

after scoring many flops, keerthy suresh takes on a meaty character that gives her plenty of room to act. the award-winning actress is amazing as the one-sided lover and evokes strong emotions in the second half. her chemistry with nithin is also good.

For some reason, Nithin is at his best when it comes to romantic comedies. He, like Arjun, gives a mature performance in the film. Nithin looks handsome and kills it in the last half hour of the movie with his solid performance. the movie has good comedy and doesn’t just drag on for the sake of it.

family emotions and the whole angle of pregnancy is handled maturely. As always, Vennela Kishore is good at her comedy and conjures up some decent fun. Naresh, Vineeth, Rohini and other actors do well in the film. the songs have been shot quite well and pc sreeram does an excellent job with the look of the film, which is quite vibrant.

negative points:

rang de is venky atluri’s third movie and if you look closely all his stories are pretty simple and there is nothing new to see. the same goes for this movie, as the story and procedures are simple and the scenes unfold on an expected note.

Nithin’s character chart should have had more of an advantage in the movie. the way keerthy suresh develops feelings for the hero is not shown properly. More scenes should have been kept to establish this thread and the depth in the writing would have helped this romantic comedy even more.

technical aspects:

devi’s music is good, as is her background music. Master Shekhar’s choreography is excellent. the dialogues are clean and evoke good emotion in the second half. the editing is sharp and so was the entire production design. the film’s production values are pretty good.

as for the director venky atluri, he has done an impressive job with the film. his last movie, mr. majnu had problems with the emotional part but he corrected all that and wrote strong emotions in rang de. his maturity to write and establish the love-hate relationship between the main couple was good. Though his story is simple, comedy, romance and drama provided in equal doses work for this movie.

verdict:

Overall, Rang de is a well-made romantic drama that has its heart in the right place. strong emotions, decent comedy, and solid chemistry between the main couple are staple assets for this film. story wise you get a sense of deja vu but the way the storytelling is handled with the right drama and feeling make this movie click and finish as a good family sight this weekend. cheer up.
