setimaarr is one of the most important movies to be released after the second wave of covid. The movie is already out on the big screens and we’ll see how it goes.
karthik(gopichand) is an assistant bank manager and coaches the women’s kabaddi team at ap. With much difficulty, she leads the team to Delhi for the national kabaddi championship. there, because of one of her relatives, the entire team is kidnapped. who is behind this kidnapping? how is karthik’s family connected to him? and how will karthik solve the mystery together with jwala reddy (tamannah)? which forms the story.
first of all, seetimaarr is not a kabaddi movie in its entirety and has a good backdrop and action. Director Sampath Nandi has cleverly blended sports drama with massive elements that will be loved by the masses.
gopichand is very good at his role and shows good emotions. he, as a coach, thrills with his eyes and is usually at his best when it comes to action. Tamannah is also impressive as a coach for the Telangana Kabaddi team. His dialogues and his body language are well suited to his role.
rahman, who plays a policeman, is okay, but could have been well used. bhumika is good but she is getting repetitive in sister roles. the girls who played members of the hockey team are good too. the main villain, tarun arora, also does well in the key role of her.
The second half is where the movie falters a bit as the drama drags on for no reason. gopichand just tries to handle the kidnapping and his brother in law who is a top policeman in delhi gets sidelined. this angle looks a bit exaggerated.
the villain is good, but more scenes related to the hero-villain confrontation should have been added. although the songs are good, they come at a crucial moment and disturb the flow a bit. plus, the filmmakers take a lot of cinematic liberties when it comes to logic, narrating the climax at their convenience.
The film’s production values are top notch as all the money spent is shown on screen. the camera work is amazing as the kabaddi matches and action blocks have been shown quite well. mani sharma’s music and bgm are awesome. editing is decent and so was all the kabaddi setup.
referring to the director sampath nandi, he has done an impressive job with the film. His story idea and the way he mixed sports drama with appropriate commercial elements looked good.
Overall, seetimaarr is a sports drama with a proper action undertone. the mix of sports and commercial elements is handled quite well. moments of solid mass, clean emotions and good performances are basic assets. if you ignore some of the logical errors, the masses will love the movie, as it’s been quite some time since we’ve seen a massive commercial movie on the big screen.
