Video What is the first thor movie

Whether we’re going to the movies or just flipping through our televisions looking for the right movie to fill the time, we tend to look for a lot of different things. sometimes we just want to laugh; other times, we may just be looking for some excitement, whether it comes in the form of action, horror, or even a good mystery. we could be looking for special effects, glorious visuals, or a clever script, depending on the setting. but at the end of the day, what we’re really looking for is a story arc that works; a story arc that draws us in and pays in the end. And if you’re a fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there’s no better narrative arc than that of Thor Odinson, the god of thunder, played by Mr. Chris Hemsworth.

Thor is the only character in the MCU to have four solo outings in his sub-franchise; Yes, 2022’s Thor: Love and Thunder puts him one ahead of his original Avengers counterparts Iron Man and Captain America. Is this because each movie is the best? no, probably not. the real reason for this, most likely, is that thor didn’t really hit his stride as a character until writer/director taika waititi took the reins for 2015’s thor: ragnarok, allowing hemsworth to not just be the beautiful, buff, god who he is, but letting him be whimsical and funny too.

which is not to say the first appearances of mr. odinson were without merit; they have their moments, but if it wasn’t for the rework that came before ragnarok, we probably wouldn’t have the character in as good a place as we have for the last half decade. The Russo Brothers picked up where Ragnarok left off for the two-part Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, with Waititi taking back control for 2022’s Thor: Love and Thunder. Thor has been reworked into something quite different from where he started, And whether you like the change or not, it looks like this version of Thor is here to stay.

There are many ways to get into the different characters in the mcu, but for the purposes of this story, we are going to make you a thor fan. (And we should clarify: we always advocate watching these movies in the order they were released. Within the Thor sub-franchise, there is no chronology game at play, but still, watch the movies in the order they came out! nothing else makes sense. stop being cute.) which includes all four thor solo movies, plus some extra gear and surprises – it’s a lot, but it’s all related, we promise. and if you like a badass Norse god (which might also make you laugh out loud), it’s worth it.

tor (2011)

To technically get a taste of the mcu’s thor story for the first time, you can watch iron man 2 just to watch the credits scene, which features agent phil coulson (clark gregg) encountering thor’s hammer, mjolnir, in New Mexico. But you can get the gist of it just by pressing play on the first Thor movie, which was directed by Kenneth Branagh and released in 2011. Thor features Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Natalie Portman as Jane Foster, Idris Elba as heimdall, and all the rest of the essential characters from the marvel of thor. some of the shakespeare stuff is a bit dry, but ultimately it’s a fun movie that sets up a lot of what is to come. hemsworth and hiddleston – lovely as always.

the avengers (2012)

have you ever heard of this? thor is one of the “original six” of the avengers, and you can see in this mega-hit from 2012 how that team, led by samuel l. nick jackson’s rageā€”it came to be for the first time. Thor doesn’t come into the movie until about 40 minutes in, but it’s an amazing entrance, and it turns out the team really needed him; his brother loki is the villain of the movie after all.

thor: the dark world (2013)

Thor: The Dark World is considered one of the worst movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, if not the worst. And honestly… it’s not great. but you’re getting into thor, and if you’re doing that, this movie really does have its moments. loki in captivity that’s good thor has great emotional moments. And although the film leaves you a little cold, and also has one of the worst villains in the MCU, it has a sensational ending and a moderately funny appearance by the great Chris O’dowd. avengers: age of ultron (2015)

the second avengers outing is kind of a forgotten avengers outing, but it gives us one of thor’s best (and, retroactively, most important) moments early in the movie: when his fellow avengers try to lift his unattainable hammer. watch this scene very closely, and for more reasons than the fact that it’s one of the funniest moments in the entire mcu.

thor: ragnarok (2017)

the reinvention! With Thor: Ragnarok, Hemsworth, along with writer/director Taika Waititi (who joins the gang as a bunch of sentient rocks called Korg), gives the Thor sub-franchise (and the character) a much-needed shot of energy. . While Hemsworth was always funny when given the necessary MCU moments of comic relief, Ragnarok allows him to lean into those whimsical comedic leanings in a way that totally works. Combine that with a cast that includes Tessa Thompson, Jeff Goldblum, Cate Blanchett, Karl Urban, and our old friends Idris Elba and Tom Hiddleston, and this is the best movie of the bunch.

avengers: infinity war (2018)

if ragnarok is the best thor movie, infinity war could be the best version of the thor character. Keeping the same humor he instilled in him in Ragnarok, you get to watch this guy bounce off Guardians of the Galaxy, but in an introspective way that takes the loss he’s felt up to this point in the story very seriously. Hemsworth takes center stage in this key team-up chapter of MCU history. and crushes it.

avengers: endgame (2019)

The conclusion of Marvel’s Infinity Saga presents Hemsworth as a Thor you’ve never seen before: a defeated, mentally despondent and depressed Thor. a thor who is still worthy, don’t get us wrong, but one who no longer knows his place. luckily for us, he figures as much as ever into the plot to save the world and defeat thanos.

loki (2021 – )

Okay, this isn’t Thor, but if you’ve been on the journey that long, you’ll also be interested in his mischievous brother, the villain turned anti-hero (and there may or may not be a few easter eggs along the way). We don’t want to give too much away, but if you thought Loki’s story ended in Infinity War and Endgame, well, Loki proves you so wrong. tom hiddleston is as good as ever in the series; is one of the best marvel shows on disney+.

what if…? (2021 – )

what if… from disney+? is certainly a fun and creative mcu project. certainly not essential to the story of the larger mcu either. That said, if you’ve made it this far and want to have a little more fun, you can check out Chris Hemsworth’s appearance in a couple of What Ifs? first season episodes; One of which involves Thor throwing the biggest party in the universe, and another which involves him teaming up with some unknown friends from work to stop a common enemy.

thor: love and thunder (2022)

Thor: Love and Thunder reunites Hemsworth and company with Taika Waititi in a film that once again turns the god of thunder into a largely comedic figure, but doesn’t forget that he’s also still, you know, a badass. Natalie Portman returns to the cast as Jane Foster’s powerful version of Thor, and Christian Bale plays a terrifying villain named Gorr the Butcher God. The movie draws heavily from writer Jason Aaron’s Thor comics, which are some of the best for the character. It’s a lot, but it’s also fun.
