dil raju has been promoting srinivasa kalyanam on a massive level in recent days. The family drama has finally hit the screens today and let’s see if it lives up to its hype or not.

history:

vasu(nithin) is a well-educated young man who belongs to a joint family. He falls in love with Sri (Raashi Khanna) and confronts his father (Prakash Raj) about his love. On the other hand, Sri’s father is a wealthy businessman who doesn’t believe in the formalities of marriage and old-school traditions. The rest of the story is how Vasu takes matters into his own hands and makes his wedding happen on a traditional note by changing the mindset of Sri’s father.

positive points:

how important the institution of marriage is in life has been well shown throughout the film. also, the familiar emotions shown in the second half are good and add depth to the movie.

prakash raj leads from the front and is excellent in the role of a businessman who does not believe in emotions. Jayasudha brings depth to the proceedings with his moving act. Raashi Khanna is getting better with every movie. she looks beautiful and gets excited quite well.

Another great advantage of the film is the rich production values, as every frame seems rich and traditional. the way the village rituals and marriage are shown look good on screen. Last but not least, Nithin starts off on a boring note in the movie, but covers it up nicely with her good performance in the climax.

negative points:

the basic conflict is not strong at all in the second half. how prakash raj who is very practical in life becomes a good man at the end of the movie is not well shown. there should be more scenes to show the change in him. his role is not well resolved in the second half.

also, the director brings a good emotional angle to the role of nanditha swetha, but leaves her thread midway in the preclimax. the main emotions look good in places, but some unconvincing scenes don’t continue with the same feeling.

There is no entertainment factor in the film and the younger generation who have a different mindset today may feel that the film is too preachy. too many veteran actors like naresh and amani don’t have much to do in the movie. it takes too long to establish the love story and the twist in the first half gets boring.

technical aspects:

dil raju has spent a lot of money on the film and the cameraman shows it magnificently. Mickey Meyer’s music is decent, but the songs have been shot on a very dull note. the dialogues related to marriage and its importance in life are very moving. the production design is excellent and so was the style of the film. the edit was fine as about ten minutes could have been cut in the first half.

referring to the director sateesh vigneysa, he has done a good job with the film. his idea of showing the value of marriage is very good but his execution is lukewarm. he has forgotten to add the basic drama and conflict in the film, which is a huge drawback. he shows the role of prakash raj quite interestingly during the first half but doesn’t convey the feel of the character in the second half and this is where things get boring.

verdict:

Overall, Srinivasa Kalyanam is a traditional family drama where emotions work in parts. the lack of conflict, youthful elements, and not-so-engaging drama kill the movie after a while. the film is clearly for family audiences as the narrative suits their mindsets. as dil raju has packed the movie with amazing star cast and rich telugu culture, the movie can be seen for these reasons and nothing else.
