MCU Rumor Reveals When the X-Men Reboot Will Release

When is the next x-men movie coming out

the marvel studios hall h panel at san diego comic-con was an mcu fan’s equivalent of christmas day. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has made big announcements about the future phases of the MCU, revealed some new titles and teasers, and released the first trailer for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. what was not revealed or discussed, however, was the x-men in the mcu.

mutants returned to the marvel fold when disney acquired 20th century fox in 2019. but even though a new x-men 97 animated series is in the works and deadpool 3 is on the way, the marvel faithful have been eagerly awaiting the mcu. Live action take on Professor Xavier’s gifted youngsters.

since mrs. Marvel’s ending established that Kamala Khan is a mutant, and Comic-Con is usually where Feige reveals future MCU plans, audiences awaited X-Men news in Hall H.

When that didn’t happen, many assumed Feige would withhold that information until the 23rd. However, there may be another reason at play and one that offers a glimpse of when the MCU’s X-Men movie will finally be released.

when will marvel studios x-men movie be released?

X-Men, Marvel

Marvel

According to journalist and former Birth. Movies. Death. editor-in-chief Devin Faraci, via Cinema Sangha, the reason why mutants weren’t announced at Marvel’s Hall H panel is that Marvel Studios can’t make their X-Men movie until at least 2025 due to “the contractual situation with the original Fox stuff:”

“despite the introduction of mutants at the end of ms. marvel, there are no mutants in phase 5. i know why. i know why there are no mutants. i know why this will take a while. there may be individual mutants. mutants, there may be other characters that show some interest. which is why the contract situation with the original fox will be until 2025. so if they don’t want to use those actors, then they have to wait until that contract expires.”

It remains to be seen if this information is true. However, if this is the case, it’s worth noting that Marvel Studios has apparently stuck to the parameters of the contract thus far.

for example, professor x in doctor strange in the multiverse of madness was possible because he was played by the original actor from the fox franchise, and the same goes for ryan reynolds as deadpool once deadpool 3 is released.

mrs. marvel is not a breach of contract in the sense that iman vellani is the first to play in her live-action, as is tenoch huerta as namor the sub-mariner, if marvel chooses to embrace her title as marvel’s first mutant in black panther 2 .

when asked if marvel studios might even announce their mutant-related projects and casts at d23 in september, faraci acknowledged that marvel has “like nine spots open in phase 6” but no one is “we are going to see mutants up to phase 7:”

“if they’re going to have material in 2025 at the end of the contract, then they’ll announce it. but i think they can’t really go into production until the contract ends. so it’s not even a release: it’s the same with superman. so they’re going to be phase 7. so they’re not going to see mutants until phase 7. there will be mutants that show up after the multiverse saga ends.”

does this explain why mrs. marvel is a mutant?

If these contractual limitations hold true, it will no doubt be a disappointment to fans who have been anticipating news of an x-men project. but that doesn’t mean that wonderful audiences don’t see mutants at all.

after all, phase 4 of the mcu has already featured a cameo from professor x and a semi-cameo from evan peters’ quicksilver on wandavision. And since this is the saga of the multiverse, other familiar faces could easily reprise their roles, especially since Avengers: Secret Wars is a multiversal story.

lastly, as faraci pointed out, new mutants can also be introduced. in fact, this contractual issue may have contributed to the decision to make mrs. marvel at a mutant as opposed to an inhuman.

the real proof of this rumor? panel d23 from marvel studios on september 10th.

if kevin feige doesn’t announce an x-men movie or any other x-men related projects before 2025, it looks like x-men fans will have to wait until the conclusion of the multiverse saga before a new wolverine or magneto makes his debut in mcu.
