Uppena movie review greatandhra

movie: uppena rating: 2.75/5 banner: mythri movie makers cast: panja vaisshnav tej, vijay sethupathi, krithi shetty and others music: devi sri prasad cinematography: shamdat sainuddin editor: naveen nooli art: mounika ramakrishna producers: naveen yerneni and y ravi shankar written & directed: buchi babu kumar sana release date: February 12, 2021

Despite being the launching pad for newcomers, “uppena” has generated quite a buzz with its blockbusters, enticing teasers and trailers, and of course aggressive promotion from leading production company mytri movie makers.

Let’s see to know the truth in their statements.

Story: The story is set in 2002. In Uppada, a coastal town in Andhra Pradesh, Aasi aka Aashirvadam (Vaisshnav Teja) is a fisherman. the young man has been developing ‘feelings’ towards bebamma (krithi shetty) since childhood.

She is an upper caste girl and the daughter of local businessman Raayanam (Vijay Sethupathi), who wants to develop a shipyard in the village.

bebamma who is now studying at a university in the nearby town of kakinada yearns for love. Even though her daughter informs him that her bava is harassing her, Rayanam takes no action with him to keep her family’s honor intact.

for raayanam, honor supersedes all. “Honor and I are not inseparable,” she says. when aasi accidentally hits his bava, she falls in love with him and her love story begins.

It goes without saying that Rayanam does not tolerate a low caste youth dating his daughter. how far would raayanam go to break these lovers?

Artist Performances: Panjaa Vaisshnav Tej and Krithi Shetty are newcomers, but their screen presence and the ease they’ve exhibited make us forget about their rookie experience. on screen, they are cute as a young couple. vaisshnav tej fits well into the role of a young man from the fishing community.

krithi shetty is incredibly beautiful. Her expressive eyes will make her young hearts melt.

vijay sethupathi as antagonist and father of krithi shetty sets things in motion. The award-winning actor hasn’t done any outstanding work here, but his screen presence and intimidating nature draw us into the story. his height is enough.

Leading actor Sai Chand lands another significant role and steals the moments every time he appears on screen.

There is no purpose to the character of the mother in bed. similarly, the bava character ends without a proper closing.

Technical Excellence: Devi Sri Prasad’s music has been at the top of the charts for years. the songs are not only hummable, but also colorful on the screen. music is his pillar. the songs and its highly effective background score have made a huge difference in this predictable story. If it wasn’t for his music, the movie would have flopped.

samdat’s cinematography is quite attractive, especially the depiction of romantic sequences and songs that stand out. the images are attractive.

highlights: devi sri prasad’s young, fresh music blends rich visuals and production values

Drawback: Predictable story, clichéd moments, purposeless characters and slow-paced characterizations

analysis: New director buchi babu’s “uppena” has a familiar plot that is populated with relatable situations and a conflict that is clichéd, but current. essentially a love story, “uppena” tackles the issue of caste that has been dealt with in many films in recent times.

the love story does not have a single plot, nor does it have a different point of conflict. a rich girl from a high caste falling in love with a poor boy from a lower class is a point we have been seeing for many decades. the father of the girl who plays the villain in her story is also a cliché conflict.

“uppena” has all these cliches, but new director buchi babu focuses less on the story and more on bringing the audience into the town, its culture.

plays with simple things, works more on the chemistry of the young couple, is based on situations that attract young people.

The girl raising her eyebrows happily, the song and the drama, the dialogues… these are the elements that she gets right and that would connect with the young audience.

also works on the ‘rangasthalam’ type of script technique. the ‘rangasthalam’ hangover can be seen not only in the narrative but also in the characterizations.

just like ram charan suffers from hearing loss in “rangasthalam”, the protagonist of “uppena” has trouble pronouncing ‘ga’. Since he can’t pronounce ga, he calls Sangeeta as ‘Santha’, but prefers her nickname Bebamma. but the purpose of this is not stated.

the couple fleeing through odisa, kolkata and gangtok is forceful.

however, the problems begin just before the interval, with predictable situations continuing to arise. the descent into the narrative continues over a long period. predictability is one of the film’s main drawbacks.

This type of movie is based on the tragic ending, but ‘uppena’ depends only on the ‘amazing’ twist. if we deduce the twist, the film ends up being a normal and ordinary love story.

but the movie shows difference when it hits the main point in the penultimate sequences. Also, the culmination of the Vaishnav story and the twist is poignant to some and repulsive to others. the climax is handled reasonably.

newcomer buchi babu’s direction is decent. Even though this is her debut film, she has shown mastery over how to bring out the best in the cast and crew. needs to be applauded for her dialogue in the climactic part performed in the idol of shiva with a broken hand.

conclusion: does not live up to expectations
