‘the deep house’ is set almost entirely in france and was filmed in some locations in the south of france. The production also spent a lot of time filming in a studio in Belgium, where most of the underwater scenes were shot. one of the film’s directors, alexandre bustillo, described how difficult it was to shoot a film underwater, saying that all technical aspects had to be revamped and established processes changed. Principal photography began on January 27, 2020, but had to stop on March 13. The covid-19 pandemic reportedly delayed production and filming resumed on June 15 and lasted until June 26, 2020. The film is set almost entirely underwater, with most of the filming taking place at the Lites studios, located at Fabrieksstraat 81 in the municipality of Vilvoorde, near Brussels. the studio is known for its world-class inland water stage, which is 9 meters (about 30 feet) deep and is used for high-quality filming underwater and on the water’s surface. The submerged house, within which Ben and Tina are trapped, was reportedly built on a large grate and could be partially submerged in water to film scenes in specific parts of the house.
In addition, the decoration used to furnish the interior of the house was supposedly built in a nearby warehouse. filming reportedly took place in the tank at a depth of about six meters. since the house could only be lowered into the tank at a rate of about a meter per hour, it often took about six hours to lower the “game” into the water tank.

In July 2020, the production moved to the Occitanie region of southern France, where multiple locations were used for outdoor filming and establishing shots. In particular, the filming took place around Lake Raviège (Lac de la Raviège) near the commune of Lacaune. As seen in the film, the lake is surrounded by picturesque forests and is a popular spot for various activities.
It’s also worth noting that the body of water is artificial and gets its name from a village called la raviège, which was submerged in 1957 due to the construction of a dam. This is especially poignant as the lake in the film, Lago Frais, is also described as an artificial one that was made by submerging a town. The production team also shot some scenes at Lac des Saints-Peyres, another man-made lake that sits on the Arn River in the region. finally, some additional scenes were filmed in the nearby commune of anglès.
bry-sur-marne, france
part of the filming of ‘the deep house’ took place at the bry-sur-marne studios, located at 2 avenue de l’europe in the municipality of bry-sur-marne. The area is an eastern suburb of Paris and falls within the Greater Paris metropolitan area. The cast and crew reportedly spent the final days of the production filming at the production facility, which is one of the largest in France.
