Acharya movie review

Video Acharya movie review

acharya has been brewing for the last three years thanks to covid. the movie starring chiranjeevi and charan has hit the screens today. let’s see if it lives up to the hype or not.

history:

The film is set in the temple town of Dharmasthali. Basava (sonu sood), once a disciple of the temple, now performs all kinds of illegal activities in the temple city. he acharya (chiranjeevi) arrives and starts a revolt against basava. but his coming to dharmasthali has a purpose related to siddha (rama charan). who is this siddha? What is his connection with acharya? and who will save dharmasthali? To find out the answers, watch the movie on the big screen.

positive points:

It’s been quite a while since we’ve seen megastar chiranjeevi on screen. but his charisma, screen presence and intensity in his eyes are intact and he gives a solid performance. Even at this age, Chiru dances, fights and talks with her mouth in a superb way. the emotional acting of him is the highlight of the film.

with every movie ram charan is just improvising and the same is shown here with acharya. he, as a siddha, a gurukul boy, appears peaceful but transforms into a massive avatar at the end of the film. the scenes between chiranjeevi and charan are superbly executed by koratala siva and are the highlight of the second half.

pooja hegde has a limited role but looks cute on the indian avatar. her chemistry with ram charan is decent. the grandeur of the film is quite good, as the settings and action blocks are good. the bhale banjara song will be a feast for fans and comes at a perfect moment in the movie.

negative points:

One of the biggest drawbacks of the film is the routine plot. aside from the backdrop of dharmasthali, the basic premise is the same formula of good versus evil and shows nothing new.

The first half doesn’t have great moments and this is where the movie goes through the roof. Chiranjeevi, who is known for his energy, is shown in a subdued way and is only in his element for songs and fights. just to publicize ram charan’s character, he has kept himself quite bored and gets his due only at the climax. the climax also seems rushed and forced and doesn’t have enough meat for chiranjeevi to go all out.

Another big drawback of the film is the lack of a strong villain. there is no strong point of conflict for the hero to go to and the weak villain makes matters worse. sonu sood has a soft image after the covid crisis and that is the reason why he does not seem threatening. jisshu sen gupta also does not create any effect.

technical aspects:

mani sharma’s music is decent, but his background music could have been better in some areas to elevate heroism. One of the main attractions of Acharya is the city of Dharmastahli temple. most of the movie takes place in this setting and one cannot believe that the entire temple city is a set. credit must go to art director suresh for doing a splendid job.

the dances are decent and the ones for the father and son song were great. the lyrics are meaningful and the dialogues of koratala siva are good. the fights specially composed for the father and son are so easy on the eyes.

referring to the director koratala siva, he has done an acceptable job with the film. Koratala has elevated the scenes between Chiru and Charan in a great way and has pleased the fans. but in all this the tense narration is missing, which is his strong point. Koratala’s writing is quite weak as there is not enough drama to elevate the proceedings. most of the scenes seem forced and the climax is the best example.

verdict:

Overall, acharya is a temple city drama that has some good father-son moments. the backdrop is decent, but the narration is bland and doesn’t give the audience a high. also story wise, there is nothing new and the electrifying drama one expects from a koratala movie is missing. regular audiences will be disappointed with acharya, but chiranjeevi and charan make fans happy, with their chemistry and strong screen presence.
