manu is a movie that has created quite a stir for itself with its intriguing trailers over the past few weeks. After a good round of promotions, the movie finally hit the screens today. Let’s see how the movie turns out.
the movie starts in a bar where nila(chandni chowdary) tries to woo manu(gautam) who is a fabulous painter. But with a little misunderstanding, the couple has a fight and Nila leaves the bar. On the other hand, Manu saves an old man from the clutches of three mobsters in the same bar. As time goes by, Manu realizes that the thugs are after Nila now. who are these thugs? what are they doing? and what relationship do they have with nila? to know these answers, you need to watch the movie on the big screen.
manu’s premise is quite interesting as there are only four or five characters in the movie. the effect that the film generates through its dazzling visuals makes it quite different from regular Telugu films.
chandni chowdary looks gorgeous in her pivotal role. her screen presence is very good and she does quite well in all the emotional scenes. manu shows her as a good actress and chandni’s acting should really help her in the future.
come to hero gautham, he has improved a lot from his previous movies. From the looks to the acting in a complex role, he has done it quite efficiently. the love story shown between the main couple is a bit interesting and has some precious moments.
there was so much talk about the script of the movie that it would be quite new and different. but the script itself is the biggest villain of the film as the director fails to generate clarity of what is happening in the film. Until halftime, things aren’t clear and you’re still scratching your head as to what’s really going on in the movie.
If there’s anyone to blame for the slowness, it’s definitely Director phanindra. he is the one who makes things quite complicated. his idea of narrating the movie reverse scripted not only backfires, but makes it difficult for the common man to understand. all you can see if the movie with a simple turn goes on and on for hours.
Another aspect in which the film disappoints is its length. thrillers should be sharp and fast, but the manual movements are quite long and leave the audience restless. what could have been a simple and good visual thriller is completely spoiled by the director’s overconfidence in the world he created, which is like a complete shot to others?
manu is technically very strong since the images are of an international level. Vishwanath Reddy’s camera work needs to be credited as the film has a different color palette and looks great. Shiva Kumar’s production design needs a special mention, as the settings shown and props used give the film a very stylish look.
editing is pathetic as at least half an hour should be dimmed immediately. the dialogues are superb and give a special touch to the film. the production values are top notch for a low budget film. To top it off, the best part of the film is Naresh Kumaran’s riveting background score that brings the otherwise dull narrative to life.
as for the director phanidra, he has made very good short films but that is not the case with manu. he has taken a simple story and set it in his own world, which is different from others. he got the look of the movie right, but his over-creativity and an overly complicated script killed the movie in no time.
Overall, manu doesn’t live up to all the hype and expectations that were created before the film’s release. the thriller is too long, moves at a snail’s pace, and doesn’t confuse you by any measure, making it hard to sit through three hours of runtime. Aside from some decent acting, good visuals, and a strong background score, this movie has nothing good to offer and can only be viewed if you have a lot of free time on your hands.
