Following in the footsteps of angelina jolie’s maleficent, the film stars emma stone as the iconic disney villain and gives the evil puppy skinner a more endearing origin story as she transforms from wannabe fashionista to the cruella that we all know from 101 Dalmatians.
Alongside Stone, the crime comedy stars Emma Thompson, Joel Fry, Emily Beecham, Kirby Howell-Baptiste and Kayvan Novak, and we already know we’re getting a sequel, with Stone reprising the role. .

when will cruella be free on disney plus?
cruella hit theaters and disney plus (via premier access) on May 28, 2021 after its release date was pushed back from December 2020 due to the pandemic.
and starting Friday, August 27 is now available to watch for free with a subscription to disney plus, while the dvd and blu-ray editions of the film are also on sale .

Emma Thompson also stars, playing Cruella’s boss, and essentially becomes the reason for her journey as a villain. The actress is no stranger to Disney’s live-action remakes, as she played Mrs. Potts in Beauty and the Beast.
Meanwhile, Paul Walter Hauser and Joel Fry star as Horace and Jasper, while Emily Beacham, Kirby Howell-Baptiste and Mark Strong are also in the cast.

As described by Disney, the film is “a live-action prequel that follows a young cruella de vil.” the origin story is set in the early 1980s and has a “punk vibe”.
The full synopsis describes it as “an all-new live-action feature film about the rebellious early days of one of cinema’s most notorious—and notoriously fashionable—villains, the legendary Cruella de Vil.”
“Cruella,” which is set in 1970s London in the midst of the punk rock revolution, follows a young con artist named Estella, a smart and creative girl determined to make a name for herself with her designs. She befriends a pair of young thieves who appreciate her appetite for mischief, and together they are able to make a life for themselves on the streets of London. One day, Estella’s flair for fashion catches the eye of the Baroness. von hellman, a devastatingly stylish and terrifyingly haute fashion legend, played by emma thompson, but their relationship sets in motion a course of events and revelations that will see estella embrace her evil side and become the scandalous, elegant and vengeful cruella.”
how will cruella be different from 101 dalmatians?
cruella tells the villain’s side of the story, like evil did for the wizard of oz, and maleficent did for sleeping beauty. Although the film takes place before Cruella meets the puppies, we find out more about how she originally befriended Anita Radcliffe, whose dogs Pongo and Perdita are the parents of fifteen of the puppies.

The film is notable for having a jukebox soundtrack that includes many hits from bands from the ’60s and ’70s, featuring featured artists such as the doors, the rolling stones, nancy sinatra, nina simone, and david bowie, as well like an original song by florence and the machine called call me cruel.
Speaking about the song, which is titled Call Me Cruella, lead singer Florence Welch said: “Some of the first songs I learned to sing were Disney songs. And the villains often got the best numbers.
“so helping to create and perform a song for cruella is the fulfillment of a childhood dream that i have had for a long time. i am so grateful to nicholas brittell and disney for allowing me so much creative freedom and entrusting me with the beauty of cruella”. madness.”

In December 2018 it was announced that i, tonya director craig gillespie had replaced alex timbers (mozart in the jungle) as the film’s director due to a conflict with timbers’ broadway schedule.

Aline Brosh McKenna (The Devil Wears Prada) wrote early drafts of the script, before Kelly Marcel (Fifty Shades of Grey) took over as screenwriter. he then made way for jez butterworth (ford v ferrari), dana fox (how to be single) and steve zissis (partnership), while tony mcnamara (the favorite) was the last to work on the script.
How many 101 Dalmatians movies are there?
Originally created by author Dodie Smith, Cruella de Vil first appeared on screen in the 1961 Disney animated classic 101 Dalmatians, and appeared in its sequel 101 Dalmatians II: Patch’s London Adventure, released in 2003 .
The character made his live-action debut, portrayed by Glenn Close, in the 1996 remake of 101 Dalmatians (co-starring Ioan Gruffudd and Joely Richardson), followed by its sequel, 102 Dalmatians.
