Gani movie review

varun tej’s ghani has been in the works for a long time. Directed by Kiran Korrapati, this movie premiered today. let’s see how it is.

history:

since his childhood, ghani’s only dream is to become a professional boxer like his father (upendra). But due to politics in the sports world, Ghani’s father passes away. But that doesn’t stop Ghani from fulfilling his dream. He takes the help of former boxing champion Vijayendra Sinha (Sunil Shetty) and trains hard to become a boxer. The rest of the story is how Ghani goes all out and wins the boxing championship and fulfills his father’s dream of him.

positive points:

ghani is quite a show by varun tej. he fits perfectly into the role of a boxer and has done his best. Whether it’s his body transformation or his moves as a boxer, Varun Tej is solid in his role. all the scenes of him with his mother played by nadia have been well executed.

ghani has some big names like sunil shetty, upendra and jagapathi babu in key roles and each one of them plays their role to perfection. upendra comes in the flashback portions and brings an emotional touch to the movie. sunil shetty is very good as a boxing trainer and he has an important role. jagapathi babu does the best he can as the main villain of the movie.

saiee manjrekar makes an impressive debut and looks cute in the movie. his screen presence, dialogue delivery and expressions are quite good. naveen chandra gets a big role and does it well.

The second half is where the movie picks up pace as it has decent drama, familiar thrills and a good climax. the boxing setup and match combination aspects have been showing up quite well during this time.

negative points:

One of the biggest drawbacks of the film is the routine story. Boxing dramas have been made a lot of in Indian cinema and Ghani is no different. the film suffers greatly from predictable storytelling and clichéd sporting moments.

The first half of the movie is another big drawback as the love track hasn’t been handled well during this time. Director Kiran doesn’t have much to do during this time and gets to the point only during the breaking point.

upendra plays a key role and one gets the feeling that he was not used properly in the film. More drama in the episode from him would have made things have a big impact on the proceedings.

technical aspects:

The film’s production values are very good. the locations, boxing setup, and visuals are all pretty good and the incredible camera work only enhances the proceedings. Thaman is another backbone of the film as his music and bgm elevate the proceedings entirely. the dialogues are decent and so was the production design. editing was dull in the first half and sharp in the second half. the action choreography for all the boxing matches has been done quite aesthetically and creates an impact.

referring to director kiran korrapati, he has done an acceptable job with the film. although he chooses a routine story, he has narrated the film well in the second half. If he had handled the first half better with some comedy, romance and good emotions, things would have been quite effective.

verdict:

Overall, ghani is a passable boxing drama featuring a standout performance from varun tej. however, the routine storyline, boring first half, and predictable cutscenes make the process difficult. If you agree with these aspects mentioned above and you love sports dramas, you can give ghani a try this week, but there is nothing new to show here.
